Spartans, What is Your Destination? | MSU Broad College of Business

Have you ever dreamed of staying in a beach-side, five-star resort?  Or how about giving your children a Disney vacation – along with Disney gifts, without breaking the bank?  Maybe you’ve been thinking about hiking through the natural wonder of Yellowstone National Park?  Perhaps you’d like some other destination for your family?

Your dreams could come true on Saturday, February 11, at the 21st Annual Destination Auction presented by The School of Hospitality Business’s students and alumni at Michigan State University.  The Auction will benefit The School’s student Hospitality Association, its Alumni Association, and two local charities: The Junior League of Lansing and the MSUFCU Institute for Arts and Creativity at the Wharton Center.

“I am always amazed at the incredible packages our alumni donate,” says Auction CEO and senior Laurel Smith (BA ’12).  “This year, bidders will get great deals on hundreds of vacation packages – including nearly13 packages from The Ritz-Carlton, as well as stays at landmarks such as The Waldorf=Astoria and Grand Hotel.  And we have just recently received some fabulous items from our wonderful alumni at Walt Disney World and Yellowstone.”

“The deals are fantastic,” explains Alumnus and Auction Advisor Chuck Day (BA ’91).  But he is careful to point out that whatever money is spent by bidders goes to some very worthy enterprises, as well.  “Bidders can have the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped students in The School, and also local students involved in the Wharton Center and the many individuals who benefit from the efforts of the Junior League of Lansing.  It’s win-win.”

Of course, with this year’s theme of “Destination,” it makes sense that many of the hundreds of Auction items will involve vacations and getaways.  However, bidders will have access to much, much more, such as golf and Handmadewriting testimonials ski packages, exclusive culinary experiences, professional and collegiate sports memorabilia – and TICKETS (!), gift items from around the world, and so much more.  Just a sample of the many items up for bid includes:

* A weekend stay, including two tickets to Biltmore Estate, at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel in Asheville, NC.

* A two-night stay, including a round of golf for two, at the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Marana, AZ.

* A four-day, three-night stay in a coastal view room at the Ritz-Carlton Naples, featuring dazzling views of the Gulf of Mexico, three miles of pristine beaches, world class restaurants, and impeccable service.

* A four-day, three night stay in a completely furnished two-bedroom condominium at the Gulf Shores Plantation in Gulf Shores, AL.

* Three nights lodging in a junior suite at the Westin Kierland, including a round of golf for two at Kierland Golf Club; spa treatments for two guests at Agave, The Arizona Spa; and dinner for two at Deseo Specialty Restaurant in Scottsdale, AZ.The Annual Auction is the premiere fundraising event for The School and is planned by an outstanding student volunteer executive board, with the help of hundreds of student volunteers. Each year, the Auction is attended by faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the surrounding MSU community.  The Auction items have been generously donated by The School’s alumni and supporters.

Get ready to find your destination, as well as many other items, on Saturday, February 11, 2012, in the Big Ten Rooms at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.  The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and the live auction begins at 6 p.m. Destination Auction is presented by Auctioneer Bob Howe, assisted by Mike Furlo.  Your ticket to ride is only a $10 donation at the door.  Food and beverages are provided.
